Envirothon to be held on May 3rd 8a - 5p (Ranges Closed)
An Envirothon is an outdoor, hands-on
learning experience for high school
students. It centers around five different
learning stations (soils, wildlife, water
resources, and forestry and current
environmental issues) each of which are
staffed by professionals on that subject.
At each station, teams composed of five
students answer questions on the subject.
Since the event takes place outdoors,
questions involve actual contact with
natural resources, rather than a “paper and
pencil” approach. After finishing at one
station, the team moves on to the next
station, approximately 25 minutes is spent
at each station.
An oral presentation will also be part of
the day’s activities. A situation will be
given to the students in a letter that will be
sent out in February. The students will
have from February to April to research
the situation and answer the questions
asked in the form of a presentation.
The day of the Envirothon the students
will have seven (7) to ten (10) minutes
to make the oral presentation. This oral
presentation problem will be the same as
the one used at the State Envirothon.
Bleeding Control Course will be on Saturday May 20th, 2023 (Free Course)
We have now confirmed and planned a training course to educate members and families on proper use of tourniquets and bleeding control dressings. There will be 3 available sessions between 8 am - 12 pm. (More are possible depending on public interest)
The bleeding control course is aimed at providing a 60-minute course that involves a didactic and hands-on training on management of bleeding. It has been developed by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and helps educate everyone in the community on how to control bleeding. Students of the course are trained on how to control bleeding through use of direct pressure, tourniquet application, and hemostatic dressing application.
We will include the tourniquets, dressings, and manikins for training. A PowerPoint would be included and paper materials for reference will also be provided.
There is no charge to the students for this course. For more information regarding the importance and purpose of the course, please visit: https://www.stopthebleed.org/
